Lime Deodorant

I have just started using lime juice for deodorant and I am stunned at it’s effectiveness.

Cut in half and put in a container to last no more than 3-4 days and refridgerate other half for next session.

2-3 limes per week. Tiny limes are just fine if less expensive. I have used the salt crystal all my adult years but a detox changed the efectivness, so I was on a MISSION to stay natural and smell good. No lime smell just no smell and you can delay shower for 3 days and still the same no odor.

  1. Interesting! But do you juice the lime first, or just cut it in half and apply?

  2. does it work as an anti-persperant(sp?) or just as a deodorant?

  3. I’ve used lime juice and lemon juice for a while and they work great for natural deoderant. I used the real thing and the bottle 100% lemon/lime juice. But the problem I had was after shaving it stung and after time I developed a rash. So I tried searching for something else and started using baking soda. It works great too with no rash.

  4. I’ve used vinegar with the same effect. What I’ve heard is that bacteria in your sweat causes the smell. If you create a hostile environment for the bacteria by changing the acidity of your skin it will kill the smelly bacteria. The baking soda would do the same, making your skin more alkaline. I’m not sure if this theory is true but it works and it is cheap.

  5. Just one warning. Lime juice is photo-toxic — it can cause severe sunburn if you put it on your skin and then are exposed to UV rays. Everyone has differing degrees of sensitivity, but I would be careful if you go sleeveless in the summer and definitely wouldn’t apply if you are going to be laying out at the beach or something.

But it sounds like a great alternative. I’ve got “old lady arms” and stay covered up even in the summer, so for sure going to give this a try.

  6. Following up on Denise’s comment: lime juice and sun are absolutely a dangerous combination. A good friend of mine works in pharmaceuticals/medical testing and according to him lime juice exponentially heightens the treated area’s chance of developing skin cancer when exposed to sun. If you use it, stay covered up.

  7. Amiyrah, I believe this would be a deodorant but not an antiperspirant. Antiperspirant blocks your pores so you don’t sweat at all (as opposed to deodorant which allows you to sweat but removes the odor). I don’t think lime juice would block your pores.

  8. My husband did this 5 days ago and it is still working. He said it stung though when he put it on.

  9. Fresh lime juice works very good as a deodorant. Keeps you from smelling bad for more than one day. As a matter of fact, I don’t use it every day, as it tends to burn the skin. Twice a week is perfect for me.
