Chinese Fried Chicken Wing Recipe

I’m looking for a recipe for chinese fried chicken wings. I know they must do something to them before they fry them. I’ve tried just frying plain wings and the flavor is just not there. Not looking for a coated fried wing like one local place has. Maybe I’m using the wrong oil, but my deep fried wings NEVER taste like take out.

From The Hillbilly Housewife

I did a little bit of research and there are two schools of thought. One marinates the wings, the other doesn’t. If the wings you’re looking for don’t have much of any flavor other than yummy, crispy chicken flavor, try coating them very lightly in cornstarch and then frying them in peanut oil. I think the peanut oil is the key.

If you’re looking for something with a little more flavor, try the recipe below. It’s our personal favorite.

Chinese Fried Chicken Wings
  • 24 chicken wings
  • 3/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3/4 cup dry sherry
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 6 cups peanut oil
  1. Combine the soy sauce, sherry, ginger, garlic and honey and pour it over the wings. Allow them to marinate in the fridge overnight.
  2. Drain them and fry in hot peanut oil (about 360F) until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately.
