Financial Peace Of Mind, Gluten Free Kids and Beef Brew Bake – HBHW Newsletter

January 27th 2010

I am trying to wrap up as much as I can today before heading to a 4 day conference in Atlanta with my husband tomorrow (which would explain why this newsletter is coming out so late today). This will be the first time our daughter is going to spend more than just a night with Grandma and Grandpa. She’s very excited, but her Mama is getting quite nervous. At least the conference is just a few hours away and I am excited to go.

The Hillbilly Housewife Club is becoming quite the fun place to hang out. Over the past few days, we’ve formed our own little weightloss support group and are also sharing our financial goals for the new year. I am looking forward to getting to know more of you loyal HBHW readers within the Club area this year. If you haven’t given it a try, why don’t you join us. Just a dollar will get you in at

Today’s featured article is all about getting financial peace of mind. It’s a great read and I recommend you don’t miss it. Mary also shared another great article about gluten free living.

That’s it for this week. As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions. Feel free to email me at

Warm Regards,

Susanne – The Hillbilly Housewife

P.S. Don’t miss this week’s inspirational story toward the end of the newsletter.

News From The HBHW Club

This section is all about the HBHW Club. Each week I’m going to share some tidbits of what’s going on at the HBHW Club with you. I hope you enjoy these extra tips, recipes and ideas and of course would love to have you join the club.

As a HBHW newsletter subscriber, you can join for only $10 per month here: And to make it even easier, I’ll let you try it out for just a dollar for the first 7 days.

Here’s one of the recipes that were submitted this past week.

Beef Brew Bake

* 2 lbs. beef stew meat, cubed
* 1 cup flour
* 1/4 tsp. black pepper
* 1/4 cup cooking oil

* 2 large yellow onions, diced somewhat coarse
* 1 clove garlic, minced
* 1/2 tsp. salt (more or less to taste)

* 1 quart good dark beer (32 oz)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Get out your cast iron Dutch oven.

Put beef stew meat in bag and shake with flour and pepper until all the meat is coated.

Heat cooking oil in Dutch oven until hot enough to sizzle when the meat is added.  Start browning beef.  Do this in small batches so you don’t over-crowd the pan causing the meat to “boil” instead of brown.  Remove the beef as it browns and set aside, continuing until all the beef is browned.  Add a bit more oil if needed as you go, but keep the pot hot.

In a separate bowl, mix together the chopped onion, garlic, and salt.

When all the meat is browned, turn off the burner, and start returning the meat to the pot layering it with the onion/garlic mixture.  Start with a layer of meat, then some onion/garlic, then more meat, more onion/garlic, etc. until everything is in the pot.  Now pour the beef slowly over the top.

Cover the Dutch oven and put it in the preheated 350 degree oven.  Let cook for 3 1/2 to 4 hours.  Don’t peek if you can help it!  The beef will cook nice and tender in the beer.  If it looks like the beer is boiling away too much, turn down the oven and keep cooking.

This is a filling dish when served with potatoes, crusty bread, and a green salad or vegetable.

And here are a few more recipes that have recently been added to the member area.

  • Complete Meal Deal Burgers
  • Cheddar Baked Potato Casserole
  • Bacon Fried Rice
  • Dutch Oven Brisket And Gravy
  • Crab & Shrimp Salad Bake
  • Coconut Cream Cake
  • Old Fashioned Polish Beef Soup

All in all, we have over 290 new recipes in the member area already.

What else has been going on at the HBHW Club? We’ve been talking a lot about our financial goals for 2010 and about losing weight. In fact we just added a whole new section all about weightloss and exercise to the Hillbilly Housewife Club Forum. It’s a great place to post your goals, check in to see how other members with similar goals are doing and to support each other. It’s quickly becoming my favorite section. I’m sure you have a lot to contribute to the conversation. Ready to join us? Try The HBHW Club for only $1. We’d love to have you!

There’s a new monthly resource report waiting for you in the HBHW Club area as well. It’s all about making and keeping resolutions in 2010. I did the lot of research and am sharing quite a few tips that have helped me over the years. The tips and strategies will apply to all common “New Year’s Resolution” type goals including losing weight, getting out of debt, stopping smoking, getting more sleep, exercising more, and finding some “Me” time.

This week’s featured article is all about getting financial piece of mind. When I came across this article by John and Linda Ballis, I just knew I had to share it with you. Not having to lay awake at night and worrying about where the money for the next house payment or even food for the week would come from has been such a blessing for me and my family. Inspirational Story

Every day goes by like the last
It seems that time flies too fast
I close my eyes and ask it to stop
I look at the clock and another minute has passed
I think to myself…

What would I do if I weren’t consumed
Consumed by the world and all that it is
The obligations attached to being successful and popular
What would I do?

Embrace those that I love…
Care for those that I don’t…
Learn how to love those I hate….
Enjoy every moment I get…
Forget about what means nothing …
Remember all that means everything…
Make a joke when I shouldn’t…
Laugh even though its not funny…
Cry when I’m happy…
Never fear, it only wastes time…
Show the devil when he’s met his match…
Cast out my demons forever…
Travel the world and see…
Stand on the highest mountain…
Be the heart of a dead country…
Make my own music…
Even though it doesn’t rhyme, make my own poem…
Sing my own songs…
Make new friends…
Accept different cultures…
Eat weird food…
Hug, kiss, and never let go…

All the things that I used to think were so important
I now realize mean nothing
All I want to do is help those who can’t help themselves

All the money in the world can’t buy my happiness
All the joys of doing what I love
All means nothing in the face of God if
All I have is nothing for him

In a matter of 60 seconds
I’ve figured out the secret of life
But now I’m falling asleep
Will I remember when I wake up?
