Day 14 – Delicious Dump Cakes

I hope you and your loved ones have a wonderful 3rd Advent Sunday. We’re all a bit under the weather. My daughter is feeling sick and we’re trying to figure out if she’s coming down with a cold or the flue. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and let’s hope it’s just a winter cold. Sadly the flu shots we got don’t seem to be working this year and the flu is spreading like wildfire at her school.

Hillbilly Housewife Advent Calendar Day 14I send my husband to the drug store down the road and he came back with cold medicine for her and some German Spice Cookies for all of us to share. I’m so happy those traditional Christmas cookies form home are easier to find here the last few years. They are also known as Spekulatius cookies. They are hard to make at home because you need a particular waffle iron like appliance to make them. If you see them in your area, give them a try. They are some of my favorite cookies.

In the meantime, why not make up a batch of Spiced Apple Dump cake from my Dump Cake Kindle cookbook. The book is today’s Advent treat and you can download it free on Amazon (in the US).

For now, Amazon only let’s me share it free from the US Amazon site. I’m contacting them about making it available in other countries as well. Please check the Amazon page before you click the “buy” button to make sure it’s still free.

Today’s Question:

While I make most of the foods, cookies, and treats we enjoy around the Holidays, I do buy a couple of things each year. The Spekulatius cookies I told you about are the perfect example. What special treat do you buy around Christmas? Leave me a comment below. I’d love to hear from  you.
