A great way to use less shampoo and make the bottles last longer is to use a pump-style hand soap dispenser. In most cases, one or two squirts will be enough for all but the longest of hair. I buy the giant economy/family-sized bottles and decant the
m into the pump bottles. One store-bought bottle of shampoo lasts me a year this way (and that’s with washing my hair every day).

Where do you find giant sized shampoo/conditioner?
I usually find mine at Sam’s Club…if not, Wal Mart, K-Mart, Dollar General, or Dollar Tree….they sell giant fam sized shampoos & conditioners everywhere, now…
Those “Dollar Stores” are amazing. I just stumbled upon a bunch of ‘designer’ brand shampoo and conditioner that sells for about $15 in the salons, even the big stores, all for $1. You just never know what you’ll find.
I also add just a little water to my shampoo because most are so thick that you end up using way too much. I do the same for dishwashing soap.
This is a great tip. I always purchase everything that I can with a pump. I have also found that when you pump anything you tend to be more careful of how much is truly needed.
It’s all about measuring, isn’t it. Thank you, Pam for sharing your thoughts.
I buy the big liter shampoos that come with pumps. Does anyone else do this? How do you deal with that last little bit in the bottom the pump can’t reach? I’m thinking about taking the lid off and up-ending it into a jar overnight, but the cats might think it’s a fun thing to knock over (especially the Maine Coon!).
Hey MacKenzie,
I usually just unscrew the pump and set it off to the side for few days until I shake the last of it out of the bottom. When I REALLY can’t get anything else out, I add a bit of warm water, plug the hole with my thumb and swirl it around ad sure enough there’s always one more wash in the bottom! Yeah…guess that sounds pretty tightwad. Oh well! I also put any free samples I get in my bottle as I receive them and I just recently realized (but haven’t started yet) That if I would just water the shampoo down a bit it’ll stretch even further without a quality difference. I mean if it works for the last bit at the bottom of the bottle, why not the whole bottle? Your cats sound like fun!
hey i have long hair over 6 feet i use plain white vinegar i use this stuff for everything i put 1 cup with warm water an rinse my hair also good if u have hard water
Another great place to find large size shampoo is Sallys Beauty Supply. They sell gallon size jugs of shampoo and conditioner.
