Crockpot Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie Dessert

  • 2 1/2 cups brownie mix (about half of a 20 oz box)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup good peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon soft margarine
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa

Spray your crockpot liner with a nonstick cooking spray or just rub some butter all over the inside.

In a bowl, mix the first 6 ingredients together well, using a whisk or big spoon.  Spoon this batter mixture into your crockpot, taking a spatula and gently spreading it out evenly.

In a saucepan, pour the water, brown sugar, and cocoa in a pan and bring to a boil, mixing it well.  When it boils, remove it from the heat and pour it over the batter in the crockpot, making sure you evenly distribute it over the top of the batter.

Put the cover on the crockpot, turn the heat setting to HIGH and cook for about 2 hours.  Then, turn the heat off and let the dessert sit in the crockpot with the cover still on for about 20 to 30 minutes.

Scoop dessert while it’s still warm into pretty dessert dishes or cups and top with a dollop of cold whipped cream or ice cream for an extra sweet treat.

You’ll get about 6 servings out of this dessert, a few more if you have light eaters, but most likely it won’t go that far!  Enjoy!

  1. Can I use the complete box of brownie mix and double other ingredients. Should I double cooking time?

    • The Hillbilly Housewife says:

Provided your crockpot is big enough, yes you can double the other ingredients and use the complete box of brownie mix. I haven’t tried doing this, but doubt that you will need to double the cooking time. It should cook in about the same time.

  2. I tried this recipe last night. I have made a couple different versions of this and thought this recipe was the best. I loved the water, brown sugar, and cocoa you put on top of the batter instead of a package of prepared pudding. I will definitely make this again!

  3. This recipe is so delicious, tried it the other night and its a great dessert treat that is quick and easy without the need for extra bake ware! The brown sugar was great in the mix, I was kinda hesitant at first about it but it turned out great! Thanks for the great recipe!

  4. I have commented on this recipe before but wanted to say I have made this many times and my family never gets tired of this! Even though right now summer is coming, I will still make this all year….simply easy and so tasty!

  5. Can I ask what size crockpot you are using?
    I have a 3 litre and a 6 litre.

    • kellie…..I don’t know what size my crock pot is but it is the larger one-big enough to hold a whole chicken it. If you use the smaller crock pot I suggest using the original recipe as I believe it was intended for the smaller one.

Also….I would suggest not cooking the cake on “high” as the edges probably will burn before the middle is done. I make this recipe using “low” and it is done in around 2 1/2 hours.

  6. Debbie in MA says:

Can the boxed brownie mix be replaced with making your own (flour, cocoa, etc)? I don’t buy brownie mixes.

    • Debbie- Here is a recipe I have used a few times, hope you like it.

Combine 1 c. flour, 1/2 c.sugar, 1/4 c. cocoa powder, and 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder. Add 1/2 c. milk, 1 tsp. vanilla, and 2 Tbs. oil. Stir until combined then stir in 3/4 c. peanut butter chips, if desired. Spread into crock pot.

In another bowl, combine 3/4 c. sugar and 1/4 c. cocoa powder. Stir in 2 c. boiling water and 1/2 c. peanut butter and pour over batter.

Cook on low for 2-3 hours.

  7. Im making these as im typing this!
