Cheddar Popcorn Recipe

Does anyone know a homemade recipe for cheddar cheese popcorn? I love the microwave version that you pour the cheese sauce over after cooking. I also love the drier packaged type of cheese popcorn. I’ve tried some of the bottled shakes without achieving desired results. Thanks for your help!

    I can remember as a child, mom making cheese popcorn with the powder
    cheese that comes in Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinner. Just pop your corn and sprinkle the cheese over it. I remember this being very good.

    Cheddar Popcorn

    2/3 cup unpopped popcorn

    1/3 cup butter

    1 cup finely grated cheddar cheese

    Salt and pepper to taste

    Pop the popcorn. Melt the butter. Grind some pepper into the butter. Stir. Layer the cheese into the popcorn. Pour the butter mixture on top, and salt.

    This may not seem very “frugal”, but sometimes I see this stuff at Dollar Tree and Dollar General, so maybe its not so bad.

    My daughter is a college student and they love to make popcorn in the microwave (you know you can just cook popcorn with a little oil shook up in a paper bag – you don’t have to buy microwave popcorn) and they squirt a little bit of “squirt cheese” (the kind in the can that you squirt on a cracker) in the popcorn and stir it up. She claims that this is all the rage with her girlfriends!

    I love popcorn and would eat it everyday!! I have a hot air popper and while its warm and the hot air is still blowing over the bowl, I’ll add the finely shredded cheeses. I also play around with my seasonings. My favorite combo is italian cheese blend with garlic salt and butter. A close second is the powdered white cheddar cheese with onion salt and butter, tastes like ranch. An honorable mention is cheddar cheese with chili powder for a taco flavor. I don’t like it but my husband swears by his spicy popcorn with old bay seasoning.

    as kids we used to make cheese popcorn too. we would get dried cheese (similar to mac n cheese) from our local cheese house. and sprinkle it on freshly made popcorn

    Try air popping, then spraying a quick spray of butter-flavoured cooking spray, then sprinkle your choice of powdered cheese and/or flavourings. The cooking spray helps the powder to stick.

    I grab the dry cheese packet from a box of Macaroni & Cheese dinner and sprinkle that over the hot popcorn that I’ve just microwaved. Tastes just like what you buy at the store! I save the macaronito add to soups or as a side dish.

    Pop a bowl of hot air popcorn as much as you want then over a very low heat melt unsalted butter in a pot slowly once melted stir in powdered cheedar cheese until its the consistency you want then pour it over cooled dry popcorn and stir until well mix and covered as much as you want; then just sprinkle a light coat of dry cheese over it again. IT’S JUST LIKE DOWNTOWN CHICAGO !!!
