- 1/2 cup instant coffee
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 cup instant non-fat dry milk powder
- 1/2 cup powdered coffee creamer
- 2 teaspoon vanilla
This recipe has to be powdered in a blender. The vanilla makes things clumpy because it is a liquid, and the heaviness of the sugar makes it sink to the bottom while the coffee creamer rises to the top. Blending the mixture, takes care of all of these problems. Measure all of the ingredients (even the vanilla) into a blender container. Put the lid on. Process the mixture for about a minute, or until it is all powdery smooth, and the texture is even. This is actually a lot less work than it sounds like, and the texture is so impressively professional, that you may want to blend all of your coffee mixes from now on. Store in a container with a good lid. Makes 1- 2/3 cups.
This is very similar to Straight Up Latte, available for $3.50 a box from Foldger’s. Mine is a tiny bit stronger, and a little less sweet. I think it tastes better than the store-bought stuff, but I am a little biased.
To Prepare: Combine 3/4 cup of boiling water and 2 to 3 tablespoons of the mix. Stir to dissolve and serve.
If you are enjoying this frugal beverage mix, try Cafe Vienna recipe next. It’s just as creamy and delicious.

Ok, not so much. I think maybe if you leave the vanilla out or something. Maybe I made it wrong (don’t think I did), but no. Didn’t really get the whole straight up latte taste and my daughter is actually dumping hers as we speak.
I love this mix!! There no longer is the Cafe Latte(straight up latte) so this will have to do for me!! What I did change was no liquid vanilla but flavored creamer!!! Works for me!!!!!!!!!!!! I was going to email Susanne with this idea but she says answering emails is No.6 on her list after other things so I didn’t email her but since you state you don’t care for this I just hope this might help you !!! sincerely Polly
I LOVE THIS. Much better than the store bought kind. I stored mine in a 15oz dry coffee creamer bottle and it fit perfect– filled to the top. THANK YOU!
I love this ! No more buying the international latte. I just used the flavored creamer which my favorite is Vanilla Caramel and also used the vanilla sugar instead of the vanilla. I have to drink decaf so I also used that instead. I then pulsed it in little batches in my little Oscar since I had trouble using the bigger food processor to mix it all up. It came out just like the coffee I pay a fortune for at the grocery store. I was thrilled can’t wait to have my husband try it. Thanks for the recipe it is a keeper!
I am enjoying a cup of this right now! I wound up making a triple batch to use in gift baskets. I put it in 1/2 pint jars. Thanks for the great recipe!
If you’ll store a couple vanilla beans in sugar (or whatever sugar substitute you like) you won’t have to use liquid vanilla with this. The beans last a long, long time this way. I just use a quart mason jar and keep it in the spice cabinet. Take a week or so to get the first batch flavored but after that if you replenish what you take out and give it a shake there’s no wait.
Is there like a natural alternative to the creamer part? i don’t use artificial ingredients and most creamers are full of them?
Ummm, did I do something wrong? I tried making it and ended up with a big hard lump of semi-blended mix around the blades of my blender and almost burned it out! I was going to make this for Christmas gifts, but I guess not!
