this is what my grandmother calls mayonnaise biscuits. when i first got married years ago my hubby always wanted biscuits and gravy for breakfast. for the life of me i could not get my biscuits to turn out right and he hated canned biscuits from the store. my grandma gave me this recipe and he loved them! now we have 3 sons and they all love them! nice and easy way to make biscuits!!

Is this self-rising flour or “regular” all-purpose flour?
About how many muffins can I expect this to make?

  3. Weez Graybiel says:

Can light mayonnaise or whipped salad dressing be substituted or does this recipe require traditional mayo in order to turn out?

I really want to try these poor man rolls; however, I don’t know what flour to use. Please let us know. Thanks so much.

Amazing! They look like rolls on the outside but on the inside is fluffy and moist like a biscuit! So easy to make I can’t believe I didn’t know about these sooner.
Now I used self-raising flower and they came out moist and delicious. It made 6 appropriate sized “dinner rolls”.. I had a 6 cup cake pan that I used.

I used self rising flour and misread the recipe and accidentally used 1/2 cup mayo and milk each it turned out sooo moist and delicious! I got 7 good sized dinner “rolls” out of this recipe (I guess my extra mayo helped? lol)

They are really moist and the best that I’ve had, I won’t be buying store bought and I won’t be straying from this recipe it’s the best!

I used all purpose flour and salad dressing. They did not turn out.

I have used a similar recipe for years (2C. self rising flour, 1C. milk, and 2T. Mayo (regular). I mix it together, put in a sprayed 9×9 pan and bake @ 350 degrees 20 minutes or so til golden. Can be doubled; use a 9×13 pan. I also thin this with a little water or milk and fry in oil as skillet bread; or add salt, pepper, and a little parsley (all to taste) to use as dumplings. Just drop by spoonfuls in gently boiling chicken broth, cover and cook until no longer doughy and wet looking.I have made biscuits with this, also. It is a family favorite!

I’ve made these biscuits for years. You should always use self-rising flour for these to turn out correctly. If you don’t have self-rising flour then add 1 1/4 tsp. baking powder and 1/8 tsp salt to the recipe. I’ve made this with many variations including skim milk or 2%, light mayo, miracle whip, and light salad dressing. It’s all in your taste preference but in my opinion the best results come from using real mayo and fuller fat milk.

I think I will try these this week:)

I have never heard of this kind of rolls before but can’t wait to try…seems inexpensive and easy, have to love that!

  12. Barbara says:

I never buy anything but self-rising flour because the only kind of cake I make from scratch calls for it and I can use it in every other recipe I make, so it saves having to buy more than one kind of flour. These ‘rolls’ are what I make for biscuits, too. They are quick and delicious; I just have to remember not to make them too often because my family doesn’t need the extra calories, but for a treat they are wonderful. You can use light mayo, but since we don’t like the salad dressing anyway, have never tried it. You can also use 1/4 cup of cooking oil, but they aren’t nearly as good, just ask the hubby!

I tried these the other night, and now my family wants them all the time.
