This protein-rich dinner is my “no-brainer:” fast, easy, filling, and something I know the whole family will eat willingly.
Cook lentils according to package directions. Once the lentils are cooked, add directly to the sauce pan the following ingredients:
2 parts ketchup
1 part prepared mustard
1 part worchestershire sauce
Mix well, serve on buttered toast or buns.
Play with the percentages. I usually do 1/2 cup of ketchup and 1/4 cup each of the mustard and worchestershire sauce. If you like sloppier sloppy joes, add more sauce ingredients.

this sounds really good will give this a try as I’m trying to incorporate more lentils and beans in to my family’s diet to stretch our food budget.
Thanks so much! My family loves lentils and although times are tough here we’re going to happily make these for dinner tonight! I will reply back with what my family thought of this recipe!
I just cooked dry lentils for the first time ever. Proud of myself and anxious to try other lentil recipes. I used a full 2-pound bag for this recipe. The sauce ended up being 1 standard size can Manwich, 1 cup ketchup, 1/2 cup mustard, 1/2 cup Worc…(I’m not even going to try to spell it!). I think it’s very good. My oldest son thinks it’s weird to have beans on a bun but he’s eating it. My two young picky eaters are a struggle, though. But as a veggie and considering the cost of Morning Star Meal Starter “hamburger crumbles,” they’ll have to get used to it as I plan on making it again. Thank you for sharing this great recipe idea.
this sounds so good, we recently made lentils for the first time ( the green ones) and they looked GROSS, lol, but were great, i used chicken stock for the water called for and then served w/ fried bacon and the can biscuts(they dont get soggy and are great for dipping) were southerners and this is a great southern meal. mmmmmmm
The basic recipe, how many lbs of dry beans would I use? 1lb?
This was very good. It is way more filling than regular hamburger sloppy joes. Thank you Hillbilly housewife!
