I remember my mother before she left the house to teach school in Kentucky she made us rice cereal, it was similar to this but I can remember her cooking the rice in water and sugar I believe it was and raisins. She made this on top of the stove and I put it in a bowl and added milk to cool it off. Does anyone have this recipe? My mother is deceased and I didn't get her recipes I am sad to say. I would give anything to have a bowl of this through my surgeries the past two years going on 3rd year. Sometimes I can't eat anything but pudding, yogurt, etc...and I am sick of those so rice cereal like my Mom made would be wonderful!!

I reheat rice with reconstituted nonfat dry milk in the microwave. I season it with a little stevia powder and sprinkle it with nutmeg and pretend it's rice pudding ;-) It's great for breakfast.

I was out of raisins but had some cherry flavored craisins. These were delicious and a nice change with the rice for breakfast.

I was very hesitant to try this on my kids (picky 8yo and toddler), and myself for that matter- rice and milk?!? But, I had leftover brown rice from fish last night and gave it a try. They LOVED it! My toddler had a second helping, which he NEVER does of ANYTHING. I did add just a smidge of sucanat (brown sugar). It was heavenly. And to think of all that rice I've let go bad in the past and had to throw out because I just didn't know what to do with it! A definate keeper!!

This reminds me of when I was a kid. My mom and I used to eat this rice cereal for breakfast, with the leftover rice from stir fry the night before. I still have this everytime there is leftover rice in my frige. I do usually just heat it in the microwave though. Thanks for sharing an old favorite.
