Homemade Johnson’s No More Bedhead spray

I have boys with thick hair that needs quick taming in the morning. Plain water isn’t controlling it. I sometimes use No More Bedhead or No More Tangles, but it’s too costly anymore. I wondered if anyone had a recipe for something I can spray on their hair that won’t gunk it down too much. I tried adding a little conditioner to the water, but it makes their hair dirty very quickly, and getting them in the bath every other day is challenge enough! Thank you!

I had the same problem with my daughter who has fine but very long hair. I swear squirrels nest in her hair at night! I take the old detangler bottle (10.5 oz Suave), fill it about an inch with Garnier Fructis Leave In Conditioner and fill with warm/hot water. Shake well and use! Make sure you use warm/hot water when mixing so that it doesn’t clump and dissolves in the water. One bottle last 6-9 months for 2 people. Your hair dries to a soft, natural look. The Leave In Conditioner alone was too heavy on the hair and making it look oily. Works great on curly hair too!

First, for those who haven’t tried making their own detangler spray with conditioner yet, most recipes say to add a tablespoon or two of a leave-in conditioner to a spray bottle of warm or hot water and shake till it’s well combined (Suave is mentioned by several users.) If you used hot water, allow the solution to cool before using it. Spray hair lightly, especially if hair is fine, and comb through gently with a wide-toothed comb. Increase or decrease the amount of conditioner per batch until you find the ratio that works for you. One person said she used fabric softener instead of conditioner, and it worked well for her.

If you don’t like using a commercial conditioner as the base for your spray, or it doesn’t work for you, you might want to try this recipe I found at http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com in the resources section:

If you just want to tame it and not remove tangles, try a little salt water in a spray bottle.

The wal-mart (equate) brand is only 99 cents a bottle and works just as well as the Johnson&Johnsons
