I remember reading about 30 years ago, in a book on how to make your own household cleaners that most commercial glass cleaners at the time ( you know the blue ones), were 50-50 water and alcohol plus a couple of drops of detergent, ammonia if you want it (not necessary) and of course blue coloring. Just a heads up. Most alcohols you purchase now have a slight bit of oil in them. Not sure why they changed but it has made my life pretty tough since then. I use alcohol everyday as a new construction cleaner. It’s the best streak free window cleaner. Not anymore though!
One of the best window cleaners that I’ve found is good ol’ distilled vinegar. Use one part vinegar and one part warm water mixed together in a spray bottle and use a newspaper or a lint-free cloth to clean for a streak-free shine. The vinegar smell is usually gone after a few minutes.
You can even buy a gallon of the blue stuff that you use in your vehicle for window washer fluid. Works so good even on the dirtyiest of glass.
…………..and that gallon will last you forever for just a couple of dollars. Put the washer fluid in a spray bottle.
You would want to get what is called de-natured alcohol and it will not leave any residual, its what is used to clean VCRs
